Pokémon Special: Global Link continued

It's been a while since I wrote an article about various aspects of the Pokémon Global Link and the Dream World. Now that I have played some more, I've discovered a few interesting things I'd like to share as I wasn't that thorough on some parts last time. The Pokémon Global Link has so many things to offer that I'll probably forget some things again but I'll try my best! Also, I might update my previous post about it with more and cleaner pictures. :)

Promotions

It has been a while since the launch of the Global Link has taken place, and with it some interesting events have spawned.

Meet one of Eevee's Evolutions
Start date: May 19th 2011
End date: July 19th 2011

At the Pokémon Trainer Club you could play a minigame to receive one of Eevee's evolutions. You could play as much as you wanted, but once you had decided on which evolution to befriend you were stuck on your choice. After lots of playing I finally got a precious Glaceon.

Then it was waiting for the announcement of the event going live in the Dream World. It all went quite quick! On the screen above you just needed to click the Submit button and bam! You were launched into the Dream World to go look for your Eeveelution. Well, looking,... more like it was waiting there for you. You didn't even need to do anything special, it just wants to be your friend that bad, lucky you ;)

After my visit to the Dream World Glaceon was eagerly waiting in the Entree forest. It was like each eeveelution at lvl. 10 and had an ability unique to the Dream World. Goodie! Sadly this promotion is only available to the people who have played the minigame before the event had launched, so if you haven't done so then, your only chance is to find someone who's willing to trade them with you or breed them.

Stylize your C-Gear with Munna
Start date: May 12th 2011
End date: October 25th 2012

Don't fret if you have missed the first promotion, right now there's another one active which still has plenty time to go! This promotion offers an unique skin for your C-Gear on your copy of Pokémon Black or White. To obtain this C-Gear you need to enter a code on the corresponding promotion page that can be found in the current Pokémon Black & White Strategy guide. The code doesn't change so it can be found quite easily online. (PGLDR34M)

All that's left to do is costumize your settings. This can be done via the Costumize link on your Global Link page. As you can see there are many other interesting things available such as a Pokédex skin and a musical (called "Charming Munna") so make sure to check out those too!

Definately an improvement!
Dream World Points

As I've mentioned briefly before the Dream World uses Dream Points to determine all kinds of things in the Dream World, the most important features being more rows to plant your berries and different areas as well as more Pokémon to unlock in the Isles of Dreams. You get Dream Points by doing all kinds of activities in the Dream World, such as making Dream Pals, swap items, play minigames, plant berries and befriend Pokémon. The exact amount is as follows:

Amount Activity
1 Point Trade items through the Share Shelf
10 Points Water your friend's berries
20 Points          Complete mini-games in the Island of Dreams
30 Points Become Dream Pals with someone
50 Points Log in to the Pokémon Global Link

Though you can't track how many Dream Points you have when you are in the Dream World, your Pokémon will use emoticons depending on the amount of points you have collected in a single session. If the use "..." you have earned less than 100 Dream Points,  if they have a "^_^" you have less than 300 and if the have a music note, you have less than 500. When you have 500 or more Dream Points they'll have a heart in their speech bulb and as an extra treat your Pokémon will gain a level when it wakes up. So far the best I've gotten is a music note, but I'll keep trying to aim for that 500 point mark! >.<
As you can see I've collected a fair amount of points already.

The Garden  There are 3 ways to obtain berries, the first is to find them in the bushes that sparkle in the Island of Dreams. The second way is to swap berries with other people on the Share Shelf and the third way is to grow them yourself. Every berry that you succesfully plant will give you another 4 to 5 berries of the same type, they take around 1 or 2 days to grow, so make sure they receive enough water (this can be seen by the colour of the soil, the lighter the soil how the more dry it is and in need of some water)

You start with 2 rows, but you get a third row once you've collected 900 Dream Points and a fourth and final row once you've collected 2.100 Dream Points. As you can see I have been quite busy with my garden already. :)

Island of Dreams

Areas  There are currently 3 areas where you can roam about in the Island of Dreams. Pleasant Forest is the first area and is available from the start, as soon as you've unlocked more the Island of Dreams will randomly choose one every time you visit it.

The second area that becomes available after you've collected 2.500 Dream Points is the Windswept Sky. Lots of flying Pokémon can be found here.

The last area is the Sparkling Sea, which is accessible once you've collected 5.000 Dream Points, it doesn't take much skill to find out what kind of Pokémon roam here the most ;)

Note that once you've passed the mark of 5,000, 7,500 or 10,000 Dream Points more Pokémon and items will become available throughout the areas as well. For a complete list of which pokémon and items to find where and when I recommend Serebii.net.

Next time I'll take a closer look at the minigames you can play on the Island of Dreams and the Pokémon Trainer Club, until then!
